These are "other songs" that aren't elsewhere on the site, but which you might be interested in hearing. Most are scratch recordings (e.g., just me and a guitar and a handheld recorder), so you have to use your imagination a little to hear the finished product. Most of these I would very much like to orchestrate and produce a more polished recording, but I just haven't had the time to do it, yet.

2010 -- Inspired by Colossians 1:25-27, "I have become its [i.e., the church's] servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness—the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory." -NIV (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2008 -- This is a fun song looking forward to Heaven where we'll sing even better praises for ever. (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2008 -- To my knowledge, this is the first worship song to be inspired by "The Hokey Pokey." (No kidding!) (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2005 -- Inspired by the classic hymn "Nothing but the Blood" and built on a riff for which I had been trying to find a song for fifteen years. (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2005 -- It's unlikely that the parable of the prodigal son was about actual people, but it could have been. Imagine it was a contemporary of Jesus, and the son eventually came to know the redemption found in Christ of which his own father's acceptance was a foreshadowing. Then his son wonders, just as we might, why Jesus would stay when our own faith can be so fickle. Without answering the "why", Jesus just affirms, "I'll be right here."
2005 -- This story is similar to that of Bartimaeus, but I intended it to be one of the many other blind people healed by Jesus whose names aren't mentioned and whose stories aren't told. Even more so, it expresses my own sentiment that this love of God for me is mysterious in that there is nothing of myself that would even attract the attention of the creator of the universe, much less tempt Him to love me. In other songs I express the answer--it is the Father heart of God from which that love emanates--but let's first marvel in the mystery. (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2005 -- A musical analogy inspired by just the title, and a little contemplation of a dual meaning. (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2006 -- Our love ought to have a qualitative difference that people can see, can sense, can feel. While I think the Bible points first to our love for one another within the body of Christ, I think Christ's love should also be spilling over on everyone we encounter, giving them a taste of the inexplicable "wonderful love of Christ." (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2008 -- Inspired by a sermon in which we were challenged to live "face to face and side by side," and intended to be a rallying anthem (a la We Are the World), this song speaks to the need for worship as a family united. (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2008 -- I wrote this with children in mind, thinking how fun to hear them screaming, "Jesus loves me!" and "Amen!". Haven't had opportunity to try it yet, though. If you do, let me know how it goes. (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2010 -- After seeing close friends leave their faith behind, I've heard it asked, "Is it possible that I could suddenly jump ship? Is it like the edge of a cliff concealed by smoke, just waiting for me to unwittingly walk off?" I believe that those who "lose" their faith, do so by deliberate decisions, though perhaps incrementally. So long as I am seeking to follow Christ, he will never let me go. (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2002 -- After two miscarraiges, I was asking God late one night whether or not he would allow us to have children, and He prompted me to leave that to Him and contemplate the kind of father I would like to be. (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2008 -- This song was inspired by Romans 8:35-39, "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? ... neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." And the marvel is greater still when we realize that as Creator, he knows everything about us...and loves us still. (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2007 -- This song contains several truths that God uses to encourage me over and over again. The failures of the saints like Peter's tripple denial or David's infidelity and murder remind me that God is in the redemption business. He uses my own children to remind me that his love is not because of what I've done, but because I am his precious child. "When I think my sin is greater than your love, you show me again, your grace is enough." (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2006 -- This song started out to be a contemporary Christmas song, but while it's got a little Christmas flavor to the lyrics, the feel and the theme of the song are about my excited anticipation of heaven. "In the blink of an eye I'll be forever changed as my spirit flies to where mercy reigns; with all the saints of old before the throne of grace, I'll finally get to sing to Jesus face to face! (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2005 -- I wrote this for my wife, Heidi, who is my greatest earthly inspiration. I am truly a better man with her by my side, because she inspires me to reach deeper, climb higher, love better. From others, it would be flattery for them to say things about me that I wish were true, but from Heidi it is inspiration, because they are things she sees in me that I can't yet see, but want to aspire to. (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2003 -- This song is a prayer to be swept off my feet by the power of the Spirit, and a subtle plea for God to do what He must to get me to rely on Him rather than my own strength. (Lyrics and guitar chords)
~1987 -- When my mother asked me to sing at the Christmas assembly at the high school where she taught, I wrote this song to present the Gospel as I sung. Note that the charts contain three verses and the chorus of "Angels We Have Heard On High" inserted as a bridge. The audio does not include the bridge. (Lyrics and guitar chords)
Click the play button by any title to hear the track. These are all recorded in my home "studio", which comprises a cluttered corner of what was meant to be the dining room. I record vocals when the boys are asleep or away and do most of the instrumentation using the soft synth that came with Sonar Producer. These are rough productions that over time I would love to produce professionally.

Of course, if you pay for one of these scratch songs, and I eventually create a finished recording of it, you don't have to pay for the finished recording. Buying a scratch song will also encourage me to move that one up in the priority list.
