The songs below are some of my favorites. There are a few on the Worship Songs page and the Other Songs page that I think would be here if I had time to develop the recording a bit.

2010 -- Inspired by Colossians 1:25-27, "I have become its [i.e., the church's] servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness—the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory." -NIV (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2010 -- An allegory of war. Faith sometimes seems fragile, and we see spiritual casualties all too often, even those who seemed so strong. We'll make it, though, if we never stop following our Leader, our "Captain," because whatever else may fail, He is faithful. (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2008 -- Upbeat, easy to sing worship song. I don't recall what inspired this song, but the lyric continues to inspire me. "I want to shock this world with mercy, loving like I'm free." (Lyrics and guitar chords).
2007 -- This song tells the story of a leper who is healed by Jesus of his leprousy and of his shame. The inspiration was actually several passages where we are told, "...and he healed all their sicknesses," without ever naming the people. This is one of those nameless many whose lives were touched by the hand of the Savior, who no doubt tended to the soul at least as often as he tended to the body. (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2005 -- The story of Job distilled to four minutes and fifty-one seconds. (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2007 -- Inspired by the classic children's song that so well expresses a truth we must never outgrow: Jesus loves me and he always will. (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2005 -- I saw how my wife tirelessly tends to our children, and how for so long they are incapable of comprehending the love they are receiving, much less communicating their appreciation. But if they could... (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2006 -- This chorus talks about God. I saw a parallel of the affection we have for helpless babies and the affection that God has for us, his helpless sheep. Why does he love us so? That's just who he is. That's just like him. (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2005 -- Written while I was driving home from a business trip, the words so nearly brought me to tears that I almost had to pull off the road. No other song I've written has touched me so deeply. (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2007 -- I often think about how incredibly cool it will be when I get to Heaven to listen to the great saints of old tell of the power of God in their lives here on Earth. I picture the wedding feast an awesome event where saint after saint gives toast after toast as they testify to the Glory of God manifested in their lives on Earth. It would be easy to feel inferior, having never fought giants or faced lions. But God's glory never shown more brightly than in the light of Jesus rising from the tomb, and his power was never displayed more awesomely than in His triumph over the sin in the lives of sinners...sinners just like me! (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2007 -- This song was inspired by Colossians 4:5-6, "Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. " -NIV The chorus wraps around this question: When people interact with me, and they learn that I follow Jesus, what to they think of my Jesus? That is, what kind of Jesus does my behavior suggest? I hope it is a Jesus who loves. (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2006 -- On days like this--whatever kind of day it is--I need God to continually remind me that He is in control, and that is where the peace, the life, the truth lies. (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2005 -- This song is a plea to God to send his Spirit, for without him we can do nothing. "Like rain on thirsty ground, wash our drougtht away; Come drench us in your power, Fall down like rain." (Lyrics and guitar chords)
2005 -- The waves of life beat on us tirelessly. Even though the hope of Christ is within me, my outside still feels overwhelmed at times. The truth of God's love feeds my determination to stick it out, knowing that ultimately despair cannot exist in the light of Christ. It's just a matter of time! "But I know, though I can't feel Him, He's there with me; and I know He'll never fail when I'm out at sea." (Lyrics and guitar chords)
Click the play button by any title to hear the track. These are all recorded in my home "studio", which comprises a cluttered corner of what was meant to be the dining room. I record vocals when the boys are asleep or away and do most of the instrumentation using the soft synth that came with Sonar Producer. These are rough productions that over time I would love to produce professionally.

Of course, if you pay for one of these scratch songs, and I eventually create a finished recording of it, you don't have to pay for the finished recording. Buying a scratch song will also encourage me to move that one up in the priority list.
